NY: Remains Found in Allegany State Park Identified as Missing Hiker

ALLEGANY STATE PARK, NY — New York State Parks Police say human remains found in Allegany State Park Tuesday have been identified as Thomas Hamilton, the elderly man who went missing a year and a half ago.

Medical examiners at the Erie County Medical Center used dental records to identify the remains.

Police say the remains were located in the general area where 92-year-old Thomas Hamilton was reported missing during a hike with his daughter inside Allegany State Park.

Officials say a watch near where the remains were located was identified by Hamilton’s family as belonging to him.

A hiker reported to Park Police Tuesday that he found what he believed to be human remains near the Art Roscoe ski trails in the Red House area of Allegany State Park.
