HOMEWOOD | A 59-year-old man died after falling through ice at a nature preserve, officials said.
William Kasper died after being pulled out of a lake at the Izaak Walton Nature Preserve by local firefighters, officials said.
Homewood firefighters rushed to the preserve in the 1100 block of West Ridge Road at 3:33 p.m. Monday and found an unconscious man in the water, a news release states.
Firefighters found Kasper’s hat, cane and some clothes near the opening, and a dog was running in the area, officials said.
They pulled him from a 10-foot-deep area of water before a dive team arrived, the release states.
