We’ve returned from the SHOT Show with our pockets and notebooks overloaded with great ideas but one that immediately stuck out was the Adventure Medical Kits (AMK) SOL Original SOL Survival Kit.
We were talking with the folks from AMK at their booth about another upcoming project when we were introduced to the SOL Survival Kit.
From our prior experiences with AMK products (and the most recent addition of their Hunter First Aid Kit to our personal load-out), we can vouch that the folks at Adventure Medical know their stuff. So much prepackage medical/survival medical gear on the market is, shall we say, less than adequate but AMK stuff has always top-notch and is always in my pack when I go outdoors or travel.
What makes this latest kit so notable is the form-factor. Housed in a rugged, water-proof ABS case, it feature, including the specially-designed and integrated SOL knife. The knife clips into the housing and includes a built-in LED light and pea-less whistle. that can be heard up to a mile away. The Origin also contains a button compass, rescue mirror with retro-reflective aiming aid, fire starters, waterproof tinder, steel wire and nylon cord for gear repair, fishing kit, heavy duty aluminum foil for boiling water and a manual by surival expert Buck Tilton. The kit also also contains extra room for storage of other items.
While we haven’t yet gotten our hands on a kit to see if we can survive an emergency ditching in the Alaskan wilderness or some similar, we’re looking to trying it out. Both regular readers know, based upon our economy-sized doses of outdoor luck, it’s only a short matter of time before we would give a thorough checkout.
Assuming we survive the experience, we’ll post a review.
